Sean McAlister Service Recognition

Sean McAlister

In 2017, CCMTA renamed this presentation to the Sean McAlister Recognition of Service in memory of Sean McAlister. Sean was well-known within the CCMTA community, having served as both staff and volunteer with CCMTA at various times throughout his career. A devoted employee of CCMTA in the late 1980s and 1990s, when Sean’s career brought him to the BC provincial government in 2000, he maintained his relationship with CCMTA as a member of the Drivers and Vehicles Program Committee. A respected authority within the compliance and regulatory sector as well, Sean’s consulting work ensured he stayed connected with CCMTA at with the Program Committee on Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. Sean passed away on August 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

CCMTA has honoured the following individuals so far this year:

J.Debuschewitz  

Julius Debuschewitz, Yukon
Julius was an active member of CCMTA working groups for several years prior to being appointed Yukon’s representative on CCMTA’s CRA Committee in 2015. Over his tenure on CRA he has provided expertise and shared his knowledge with CCMTA colleagues with his leadership on the PMVI file, carrier compliance, training of enforcement officers and his participation and representation at CVSA. In May of 2019, Julius will embark on a well-deserved retirement.

     
S.Hammond  

Shaun Hammond, Alberta
Shaun joined the CCMTA Board of Directors in 2007. He immediately became Chair of the Board and hosted the 2007 CCMTA Annual Meeting in Edmonton. Shaun has been an advocate and strong supporter of CCMTA, always willing to provide insight on CCMTA initiatives and direction. He has provided leadership in the areas of data exchange, governance and research over the past years. In December 2018, Shaun was tasked by the Council of Deputy Ministers of Transportation and Highway Safety to take on an 18-month assignment at the end of which he plans to retire.

     
V.Janz   

 Vern Janz, Yukon
Vern joined the CCMTA Board of Directors in February 2006 and has served as an important champion of the work at CCMTA, ensuring that the priorities of the organization support its members. Vern has provided leadership on the Finance Committee and CCMTA governance. Vern was Chair of the Board in 2014/2015 and hosted the 2015 CCMTA Annual Meeting in Whitehorse. In July 2018, Vern took on a full-time assignment to rewrite Yukon’s Motor Vehicles Act.

     
S.MacLeod option2  

Sam MacLeod, British Columbia
Sam joined the CCMTA Board of Directors in May 2013. Sam provided his expertise and leadership on the Board, specifically on the cannabis file. He collaborated and shared his knowledge with his peers and represented CCMTA with external stakeholders through the cannabis pre-legalization period. In July 2018, Sam accepted the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch with the Ministry of Attorney General.

     
V.Todd  

Valerie Todd, CCMTA
Val joined CCMTA in 1993, celebrating 25 years of service in November 2018. Val has held a number of positions within CCMTA from providing administrative support to the organization, organizing CCMTA’s Annual Meeting and then taking on roles as of the Programs Manager for the RSRP Committee and most recently Programs Manager for the D&V Committee. Val’s accomplishments over the years are numerous, from RSS 2015 and RSS 2025 to the updating of NSC standards. Her commitment to members and road safety is recognized within the CCMTA community and with external road safety partners.

     
R.Wightman option2  

Reg Wightman, Manitoba
Reg was an active member of several CCMTA CRA working groups for a number of years prior to being appointed Manitoba’s representative on CCMTA’s CRA Committee in 2015. Reg has always provided his support in any way he could, and his dedication and leadership can be seen on a number of CRA files, most recently the development of an ELD Technical Standard. Reg took on the role of Chair of the CRA Committee in 2016/2017. Reg retired from the Manitoba government at the end of February 2019.

Eligibility

The Sean McAlister Service Recognition honours an individual who has been an active member of the Board, program committee or project group for more than five years, upon their departure or retirement from a CCMTA volunteer position.

It also recognizes CCMTA staff members upon completion of 15 and 25 years of service, and upon return retirement.

Recognition

Recipients are recognized throughout the year upon their departure or retirement. If appropriate, recipients may be recognized at the Annual Meeting during the banquet.
